There have been many new things happening in the world of law in the last few months. One of the most notable is the addition of six new professors at Willamette University College of Law. These new faculty members bring a wide range of expertise and experience to Willamette’s academic community.
The addition of Professors David Friedman and Kelly Gamble is part of the College of Law’s Academic Excellence program. The new program will oversee the development of academic programs that are focused on enhancing the student experience. Currently, students are engaged in experiential learning through the Externship Program. Throughout the semester, students will have the opportunity to conduct real legal research and practice their skills in a variety of law-related areas.
In September, the final round of the Bruce Spaulding Trial Competition took place at Willamette Law. It featured third-year law students and some of the country’s leading legal scholars. This event was sponsored by the Willamette Law Library.
Willamette Law is pleased to announce the promotion of 10 professors across the university to tenure. This move comes as Willamette College of Law continues to develop its historic and progressive approach to legal education. As the college prepares future attorneys for the changing world, this move will provide students with access to top career opportunities.
Willamette College of Law also announced that it is launching a new 3+3 Program with Portland State University. Through this new program, students are able to obtain a degree from Portland State and a law degree from Willamette in as little as four years.
Willamette Law has also welcomed a new adjunct professor, Terrence Green, who will teach immigration law this fall. He is currently a member of Governor Kate Brown’s staff and is an alum of the Willamette University College of Law.
Other new faculty appointments include: Professors Gaia Bernstein, Jari Peters, and Jacob Elberg. Attorney Gretchen McCord specializes in copyright and privacy law. Previously, she was a litigator and associate attorney at a national law firm.
The new Willamette University College of Law has also enlisted a new director of law library. Stephanie Davidson will serve as the college’s chief librarian. She will provide guidance and support to the library and other academic programs.
Willamette Law also announced that it has launched its Signature Strengths Initiative. As part of this initiative, the College of Law will celebrate the accomplishments of seven outstanding faculty members. Additionally, the college is highlighting two students who received awards for their efforts.
For the class of 2020, a variety of new challenges and obstacles have come their way, including taking the bar exam. However, the students have overcome these hurdles and are looking ahead to a rewarding career. They have worked on real-world projects for clients and provided legal services to detainees at the border.
The Oregon State Supreme Court supported new measures beyond the traditional bar exam. This includes the requirement that digital companies audit their features regularly to identify potential risks.
